Mediterranean Gull colour-ring programme co-ordinators
Until recently, the majority of the colour-rings had a 3-character alphanumerical code, generally giving no indication of the country of origin. Colour-ring coordinators were quickly running out of 3-character alphanumeric code combinations and this has led to the introduction of 4-character alphanumerical coded colour-rings. In order to limit observer error through colour interpretation only a very limited number of colours (white, green, dark blue, red, black and yellow) were chosen for the colour rings with four alphanumerical codes. From 2008 onwards, each country should be using a specific coloured ring with a 4-character alphanumerical code where the first character is the "country code". This will allow the observer to immediately identify the country where the bird was ringed. The country codes and the colours of the rings are listed below.
Azerbaijan : | Black ring, code beginning with "7". (not yet in use). |
